Te Wahapu Tracks

Te Wahapu and Tore Tore Island
Easy strolls, swimming or fishing on a mostly stony but picturesque shore with small, grassy reserves. At low tide cross to Tore Tore Island and explore it with some great views across the Bay.

Okiato to Russell Coastal Walkway

This longer walkway is a work in progress. The sections from Okiato to Orongo Bay are finished. Each section can be walked separately. The coastal part of the Te Wahapu to Orongo Bay section is particularly scenic and easy for those looking for a gentle stroll without hill climbing.

Pipiroa Bay to Aucks Road
From a pleasant parking and picnic area beside Pipiroa Bay the track crosses a wetland on a board-walk before ascending at first gently up a stream valley and ending with a steep stepped climb to a parking area on Aucks Road.

Aucks Road to Te Wahapu
Through the gate beside the parking area on Aucks Road a short distance along the grassy driveway leads to the track entrance on the right hand side. The track drops down through a pleasant grove of trees to a valley before climbing another ridge. After crossing two more similar valleys the track rises to meet Te Wahapu Road at a very small parking area.

Te Wahapu to Orongo Bay Homestead
This track steps steeply from Te Wahapu Road down through pleasant forest to the mangrove-lined edge of Orongo Bay. From there it skirts the Bay on a succession of board-walks and flat paths to the Orongo Bay homestead in the middle of Orongo Bay and can be accessed from a parking area just as the road from Okiato reaches the Bay.
